Distinctive Curriculum

Sign language is a language

㊺

Since the law was enacted stating that "sign language is a language," the demand for sign language has been increasing in recent years. At our school, we have deaf people and sign language interpreters as instructors, so you can learn sign language at a conversational level. You can also obtain the "National Sign Language Certification Level 2," which will broaden the scope of support we provide as "speech-language-hearing therapists."

Animal Therapy

㊻

Students learn animal-assisted therapy through interaction between the patient and the speech-language-hearing therapist. Animals have infinite potential and can bring out the best in the patient. This is a very rare initiative nationwide, and is a popular curriculum among students. A communication training program will be created under the guidance of a veterinarian.

Music Therapy: The Power of Music

Under the guidance of a music therapist, you will learn about music therapy, including how music can be used to provide mental care, support development, and slow the progression of dementia.

There is plenty of practical training

2 (2)

In addition to clinical training at the hospital, the following types of training are also conducted with the cooperation of various local facilities.
We train speech-language-hearing therapists who can develop communication skills and work with a wide range of patients, from children to adults.
・Childcare training ・Nursing school training ・Dysphagia food preparation training
・Participate in nursing care prevention classes

・Communication skills and research training
・Gatherings for people with incurable diseases and stuttering

Message from the Faculty

A job that helps people live a fulfilling life by providing support in "speaking, listening, and eating."

Head of the Speech-Language-Hearing DepartmentHonda Manami

This department has a "language counseling room." We ask users for their cooperation in classes and provide more practical classes so that students can play an active role in hospitals, facilities, and special needs schools. We also invite experts in sign language, music therapy, and animal therapy as lecturers to train "speech-language-hearing therapists" who have acquired a wide range of techniques. In particular, there is a growing demand for "speech-language-hearing therapists" who can sign language, and the opportunities for them to work are expanding.

The curriculum that can only be learned here is appealing.

Second year student in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. Graduated from Tadanoumi High School in Hiroshima Prefecture.
Yuma Kawashina

I thought that speech-language-hearing therapists, who support people who can no longer speak or eat in their daily lives, were very cool, so I decided to become a speech-language-hearing therapist. I thought that there was a curriculum that could only be learned here, and that it was the right school for me, so I went to this school. I'm not good at studying, so I try to make time to study every day. In the future, I want to become a speech-language-hearing therapist who can make rehabilitation a little more enjoyable for patients who find it painful.
If you have even the slightest interest in rehabilitation, please come and join us at our open campus.

My choice was not wrong.

2nd year student in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. Graduated from Yomitan High School in Okinawa Prefecture.

Shinjo Nina

I was interested in working in the medical field, so after attending the open campus of Shimane Rehabilitation College, I decided to become a speech-language-hearing therapist.FourI thought that this school, which is a 2-year program, would definitely help me acquire knowledge and skills. I was also impressed by how friendly the teachers were. It seems that I made the right choice, and now I am living a fulfilling life. There is a lot to remember, so reviewing every day is essential. If there is something I don't understand, I make sure to ask my friends or teachers right away. In the future, I want to become a "speech-language-hearing therapist" who can empathize with the feelings of patients.

I learned about the profession of "speech-language-hearing pathologist" from a drama I watched in high school, and it became my motivation to aim for it. At "Rehabilitation College Shimane," the relationship between teachers and students is close, and it is an environment where it is easy to consult about anything, so I have been taking care of them from time to time even after graduating. Currently, I am in charge of patients with aphasia, higher brain dysfunction, swallowing disorders, etc. Although I sometimes hit a wall, I will never forget the joy I felt when the first patient I looked after said "I'm glad it was you" when he was discharged from the hospital. I think it is important to be sympathetic to the vague anxiety of being unable to do things that were previously taken for granted, to notice small changes, and share them with the patient. Although I am still inexperienced, I would like to continue to work hard without forgetting the feeling of moving forward together with the patients.
